
Nothing makes you feel more productive or adequate than growing your own food. Tasting the fruits of your labors. The happiness of successfully growing a plant til harvest is indescribable.
When it doesn’t work, it’s heartbreaking. Your plants become riddled with infestations of killer bugs or plagues. Or you have just made a stupid mistake. Upsets are also a challenge to get it right, to learn and grow. gardening is a multifaceted engagement, you’re stretching your ingenuity, patience, hope, learning capacity. You hardly ever get it right the first time so you’re forced to move on and do better.
Gardeners are not only trying to grow food, they’re trying to grow themselves too.
When you finally eat something that you’ve grown yourself it’s a testament that you contributed to making something better. You faced the challenges of nurturing a seed or seedling into nourishment for you, your family and your friends. Which after the struggles, the taste is so much better than store bought.
