Dear Caretakers,
Sometimes plants need a little help. Sometimes you simply can’t have two varieties of apple trees in your yard. Sometimes you have too many blossoms and the bees are in short supply! Japanese researchers have found the funniest possible solution…. Bubbles!
Honestly it seems straightforward enough… you collect pollen with a paint brush from several flowers mix it into a bubble solution and then blow! The soapy bubbles carry the pollen particles up to the flowers and then burst spraying the air with them. I imagine this is very similar to wind pollination but with human interference to perfect the idea. even if it dosent work… think of the relaxing day you’ll have blowing bubbles in a sun lit garden?
I’m including some links so you can have a more sciencey longer meticulously detailed explanation if you would like to learn more: Blowing bubbles: Soapy spheres pop pollen on fruit trees, Soap Bubble Pollination – PubMed
and if you would like to try it there’s a kit with everything you need: Dr Zigs Bubble Pollinator Kit | Pollinate Flowers with Bubbles!
